Joining the the Sutherland Shire suburbs of Sutherland and Bangor and passing over the Woronora river and its suburb of the same name, stands the Woronora River Bridge.

The bridge is also one of 5 bridges in the Shire region, but it is uniquely also the only bridge that joins two shire suburbs. The other 4 either join St George to the north or Bankstown to the west. More on those here https://chasinglight.photo.blog/2021/09/25/bridges-of-the-sutherland-shire/ or another spectacular bridge from Sydney’s North here https://chasinglight.photo.blog/2022/05/20/long-gully-bridge/

Opened in 2001 and some 521 meters long. It replaced the first bridge joining the two suburbs that is a smaller and ground level bridge that is still in use today. The original two lane bridge is mainly used for locals.
The main new bridge acts as more of a bypass towards the east and west of southern Sydney, as it can accommodate far for traffic.

It’s a pretty spectacular looking bridge especially from down below on ground level. The curvature of the design really makes for a photogenic scene, my favourite being at nighttime as shown above.

The Woronora River Bridge also has a cycleway and a footpath for pedestrians that makes for a great crossing with views looking down to the northern part of the Woronora river. I’m yet to cross it myself but I think it will make for some great pictures. It is definitely on the list tho. So if you’re looking for things to photograph is the Sutherland Shire I’d definitely add the Woronora River Bridge to the list.
Til next time!
Chris
