Mahon Pool Maroubra

When you think of Maroubra in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, you’d normally think of the famous Bra Boys or the South Sydney Rabbitohs Rugby League team.
But it is also home to Maroubra’s own Mahon rock pool, named after Alderman Patrick Mahon who started a petition to build the pool in the 1930’s. Unfortunately he died in 1935 and tragically was unable to see the pools finished construction, thus a motion was raised to name the pool after him which was successful.
At only 10km from the Sydney CBD and just south of Coogee beach, Maroubra is a beautiful coastline that is a little bit off the track compared to Bondi and Coogee, but it’s definitely worth checking out as it’s a stunning coastline unto itself. The pool at 30 meters in length is just north of Maroubra beach and you can find it at the bottom of the of Jack Vanny Reserve.
With great access to car parking, it can be easier to get to than the more well known suburbs of the eastern suburbs, but I’m pretty sure that’s how the locals like it too.

So another great rock pool in Sydney to check out. It’s also number 6 on my list of 100 pools that I’m on a quest to photograph.
My only regret here is only shooting photographs via the air. I normally make a point to shoot some pictures on ground level as well, but I guess it’s a great reason to go back again.
Til next time!
Chris
