Iron Cove Bridge at Sunrise

Iron Cove Bridge from the South Western end.

Besides having a passion for photography, I’m also an avid runner. I’m definitely not as fast as I used to be but it’s something I enjoy and it keeps me active. It’s also a nice balance between taking pictures and running they both seem to even my mental out well.

But the best part about running is being involved the the running community and getting out to some random places that I normally wouldn’t go to.

So this week’s Saturday morning run took me to Drummoyne in Sydney’s Inner West as apart of a great group named The 440 Canada Bay.

Running also comes with some early starts which  also come in pretty handy for some sunrise photography too.

Before the run I had some time for a little scouting and found some cool angles of the Iron Cove Bridge which is about 25 west of the Sydney CBD.

A little while ago I started a Bridges of Sydney project and I never got around to shooting this one so it was cool to tick it off the list.

It’s a great looking bridge and it reminds me of Tom Uglys bridge in Sydney’s South with its shapes.

Iron Cove Bridge from the South Eastern end.

It’s also pretty close to Anzac Bridge so if you’re looking for seeing two cool bridges back to back, you could tick two off in a matter of minutes.

I’d like to go back and find some other angles but for the meantime I’m pretty happy with these shots.

And it also gets me a little closer to completing the series of all the Sydney Bridges too.

The one and only Bronte Pool

Bronte pool at Sunrise

There’s many great ocean pools in Sydney to either swim at or photograph. But it’s pretty hard to go past the one in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs known as Bronte.

This was taken around 6.15 am in winter, and with the lights of the pool mixed with the colours of the sunrise it’s about as perfect as you could get.

Not all pools have the lighting that Bronte has, and with the perfect angle of the sun it can make for some pretty cool pictures.

Sydney is full of some great ocean pools, including the more famous Bondi Icebergs which is only a few k’s north of here. But as far as pictures go Bronte is well worth the early wake up.

Don’t forget to pack a jumper though. 8 degrees this morning makes for some cold hands.

Til next time!

Strange days and my favourite photo for the year

The morning sights of a pay phone in Sydney’s Museum Station

On a cold and dark Sunday morning in Sydney, in the crazy hours of 5am in April stands my favourite picture of the year so far.

Whilst on my way to the start line of a Sydney city fun run, where in only an hours time thousands of runners will burn off a few banana breads. I had some time to kill before I had to meet my friends and run some hills.

In the age of iPhones us photographers are now never without our cameras, so a little wandering is always on the cards.

A few pictures here and there but nothing of any great note, that was until I saw the subtle light above the old Telstra pay phone at the Museum train station.

It doesn’t seem that long ago if you needed Mum to come and pick you up, you had to find these things pull out 40 cents and give some vague directions to our mothers to come and find us.

But it’s a new world now so things are all a little strange. I never would have thought a pay phone was photo worthy, but I also never thought that I’d be taking a photo on a phone of a phone.

But here we are, and it’s strangely my favourite picture of the year.

Not long after this, thousands of Sydneysiders and travellers alike ran up and down the streets of Sydney.

Shooting pictures and videos all from their own phones no bigger than a notepad. Posting selfies and tagging friends for the whole world to see.

Who’d have thought all those years ago when we were using those pay phones, that all of this maddness was possible.

But here we are and I’m all for it.

Til next time
