Eagle Rock

If you enjoy photographing cool things in Sydney or just like a good hike, it’s hard to ignore Eagle Rock in the Royal National Park, Sydney,NSW.
From the car park at Wattamolla Beach it’s around a 3 km easy walk and about a 2 hour return trip back to the car. It’s mainly flat with a bit of a incline and it’s apart of the Royal Coastal Walk so the scenery is awesome.

There are plenty of views to shoot along the way but they play second fiddle to the highly picturesque Eagle Rock. It’s not hard to see why it has its name as it’s a near perfect replica of a Eagles face.

There are a few great angles to get of it all, and best to play it safe as there is no fence around the cliff face. My favorite spot is here where you can see both the face and the Curracurrong waterfall. And if you’re there in the early part of the day you’ll get some nice light hitting the scene just beautifully.

You could shoot it any way you like but as always I prefer to use my 16-35 mm lens to really capture to wide landscape.

It’s one of my favorites in Sydney and well worth the photo trek.

Til next time

Chris

  1. How early does one have to be at Wattamolla to get a parking spot these days? Love the location, but was turned off, when road closed, due to overcrowding.
Never knew this location existed! Eagle Rock that is!

  2. It’s definitely a great spot, but yes in summer and on a sunny weekend you would want to be in early. Say before 10am. But if you go in the cooler months you should have no problem getting in and parking. Hope that helps πŸ‘
