Katoomba Falls, Blue Mountains NSW

Yesterday morning I headed out to one of my favourite places in Sydney, the awesome Blue Mountains.
I thought I’d go chase some waterfalls, as it’s something I’m really focused on at the moment. And hoping to improve my long exposure photography.

No better place to start than the Katoomba Falls. Located just a couple of hundred meters from the Scenic World entrance at Katoomba, and a short 5 minute walk from the carpark.

You can follow the signs to the Falls and if you feel like a longer walk you can keep following the signs til you get to the more famous Three Sisters(about an hours walk from Scenic World)

The path around the Waterfall is quite stunning and as it was a misty morning there were plenty of cool pictures to take around the place.
The Waterfall itself was awesome and one of the best I’ve seen, with a 20 second exposure I was able to capture the running water quite nicely. I used my 10x neutral density filter which allows for a longer exposure in daylight hours and needing a tripod too to keep it steady.
A great place all round and I’ll definitely be back again!

Til next time!

Bombo Rock Quarry

During the week I headed out to the Bombo Rock Quarry. It’s about an hours drive south of Sydney and just before Kiama.
Bombo is a pretty small suburb so it can be easy to drive past when you’re headed for a south coast road trip, but the detour to the awesome site is definitely worth it.
Bombo Headland Quarry Geological Site is a heritage-listed former quarry and now geological site at Bombo NSW. It is now a heritage listed site as it was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

It’s a pretty spectacular place, with a stack of great photo opportunities there. It feels like a location that would suit a Star Wars movie with desert like feel but right on the ocean.
I shot these pics during a overcast morning, which definitely added to the drama of the place. I’d love to go again and try for a dawn and sunrise shoot.
I regret not taking my tripod on the hike as I was unsure of how far it was from the Bombo carpark.
But it’s only about a 15 minute walk so next time I’ll definitely take it to try out some long exposure shots.Whit the waves cracking against the vertical wall, there is great potential for some awesome shots. If you’re in NSW at all I’d definitely add it to the list of great places to shoot.

Til next time!

Hanging Rock, The Blue Mountains

Tucked away in the heart of the beautiful Blue Mountains, is one of the more awesome sights I’v yet to come across.

Located in Blackheath at the western end of the Mountains, with about a 5km hike inland, houses just a fascinating sight.

Hanging Rock, I’d say named as it looks, as it gives the impression that the rock is barley hanging onto the main part of the mountain.

With about a 200 meter drop down, it definitely pays to keep your footing as you get near the edge.

I was there on a over cast rainy morning, witch gives the pictures a little bit of mood, but I’d love to go again on a clear sky sunrise as I think it would be even more spectacular.

So I’v re added it to my list and look forward to getting down there again someday.

It took around a 3 hour return trip from the carpark and is a pretty flat track. Except for the last 100 or so meters that has some hills to climb and and down, is was a pretty easy hike there and back.

I’d definitly recommend it as a hike and a photoshoot, just check the weather as it’s a long way back to the car is it starts to rain(10km return).

It feels a little similar to some other cool rocks such as Wedding Cake and Eagle Rock both in the Royal National Park. An awesome trip all round and can’t say enough about the awesome trip out.

Til next time!
