Photos:Daylight Savings and Losing Sleep

With daylight savings starting today in NSW, it was a great chance to hit the road for some sunrise shooting. Everyday is a great day for a sunrise shoot but today has a little bit extra to it.

I still get confused weather we gain sleep or lose sleep in the changeover from daylight savings times. And I’m still not too sure why we do it.

But as of this morning at 2:00am the clock instantly turned into 3:00am.

So when I woke up this morning at 5:30am, it was really 4:30am? Confusing yes.

So we lost an hour of sleep this time.

But in April we gain an hour back, so I guess it all works out in the end.

But one thing I do know is a couple of days ago I shot a sunrise picture and that was around 5:30am and today’s sunrise picture was at around 6:30am.

Only a few weeks ago to get a sunrise picture I often had to set the alarm for 4:30am. So I guess the good news is I can set the alarm a little later and still get some sunrise photography in.

As always I’m sure different people will have their own views on daylight savings and if it suits them or not. And I’m not sure yet if it’s good or bad myself.

In the meantime once we settle into the new time zone, I’ll enjoy setting the alarm a little bit later than normal and getting a few extra zzz’s before hitting the streets for some awesome sunrise shooting.

Til next time!

Gymea Bay Baths in Beautiful Spring

The beautiful baths of Gymea Bay. Located in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire around an hour’s drive from the CBD. Located in stunning bushland and surrounded by some classic Sydney suburbia.

From the best research I can find the baths here in Gymea have been around since the 1950’s and have had a fair few makeovers in it’s time too.
It’s really quite picturesque here and the surrounding areas of the bay and bushland make it just a great spot for a few pictures as the light comes straight from the east.

It might be a little too chilly and early in spring for the local Gymea Bay Swimming club and locals alike but no doubt in a few weeks it will be full of swimmers and fishermen too.

This morning’s cool little shoot was a bit of a special one for myself as I also get to call this part of southern Sydney home and take many of my morning walks through the baths. It’s a great time of year for it as the light in spring is just the best.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, it was a really enjoyable morning doing a little photographing around my hometown.

Photo Tips: How To Take Better Pictures More Often

I often get asked about my pictures and the photo shoots I go on. Where I was or how I took a certain picture or even if they can tag along on a shoot sometime.

But most of my pictures or the photo shoots I do are simply just by living my life.

I generally take my camera with me wherever I go, whether it’s my morning walk at sunrise like the pictures above and below taken today or just as I’m going about my regular life.

You never really know when a great picture will present itself.

Sometimes yes it is when I have a scheduled outing somewhere or sometimes it’s just as I’m on the way to get my groceries and a cool sunset emerges.

You never really know, and sometimes when you head out to take a great picture you only come across rubbish and some days you head out for a coffee and come back with gold.

You just never know.

It definitely adds to a otherwise mundane activity if you have your eyes open for a photograph that could really make your day.

Some of my favorite pictures have been just in between more important activities.

But it’s often the moments in between that are the best anyway.
